Hutchison Whampoa, thought to be in talks with future US MVNO Google about a roaming deal, has launched a global platform for virtual operators called Hue.

Hue is a mobile wholesale enabling business which will act as a single point of entry for MVNOs “wanting to create global coverage quickly and easily” by accessing Hutch’s mobile networks across Europe and Asia, the company said in a statement.

As for MVNOs wanting to launch their service in countries outside of Hutch’s footprint, Hue will negotiate with local operators to provide connectivity.

By giving its customers the ability to access multiple markets via a single enabler, the company believes it will “support the rapid expansion of international MVNO offerings.”

“Today’s mobile wholesale market is fragmented and new entrants to mobile are often challenged with needing to understand market nuances and regulations in different countries,” said Jarrod Nink, CEO of Hue, adding that Hutch’s “industry-wide credibility provides our customers with the reassurance that they will be able to connect end users to the latest 4G technology and robust networks.”

Hue is expected to announce partnerships with a number of MVNOs in the coming months.

Meanwhile, it was reported last week that Hutch is in discussions with Google about enabling US consumers to use their phones abroad without incurring additional roaming charges.

Google wants users to be charged the same for voice, text or data wherever they are in the world and this fits with Hutch’s own philosophy, evidenced by 3 UK’s  Feel at Home tariff.
