Globe Telecom’s data roaming customers increased by 40 per cent in 2014, the company has announced, as more postpaid customers have made use of its flat rate for unlimited data roaming.

The ‘P599 Flat Rate’ gives subscribers of the Philippines operator 24 hours of unlimited roaming for PHP 599 ($14) in over 80 countries “without the fear of bill shock, giving them a worry-free experience,” the company said.

Globe recently added 10 countries to its list, including Canada, New Zealand, Turkey, Myanmar, and Papua New Guinea while Vietnam and Ireland are no longer be covered “due to new regulatory guidelines”.

When users activate their mobile data and data roaming upon arriving in one of the countries where the offer is available, they will automatically be connected to the partner carrier.

They can start using the service once they get a confirmation text.

As a further incentive to subscribe, customers are also given free travel insurance.

Earlier this month, Globe Telecom reported strong gains in profit and revenue in 2014, backed by solid performances across all its business units and a 14 per cent increase in mobile connections.

It also introduced a video-streaming service that gives subscribers unlimited viewing of a wide range of Hollywood and local content on their mobile devices for PHP199 (about $4.50) a month.
