Facebook has updated its interface to be more mobile-focused and provide a visually richer News Feed.

The News Feed now has the same look and feel across mobile devices, tablets and the web, meaning the left-hand menu is accessible from any page and users can return to the News Feed whenever new activity is posted.

The update will be available for the iPhone and iPad in the next few weeks with Android to follow soon after.

The company said it has rebuilt each story on the feed to make them “more vibrant and colourful and better highlight the content being shared.” New feed options have been added, including All Friends, Photos, Music and Following, for pages users have liked.

The look and feel of Facebook’s News Feed, which is aimed at keeping users active and interacting with each other and appeal to advertisers, has rarely been changed.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the News Feed was in need of a makeover in January when its graph search service was introduced.
