CDMA sales may be on the wane, but that hasn’t prevented Ericsson from acquiring the EVDO business of Airvana Network Solutions. Just as importantly, perhaps, the deal also seems to have resolved a legal dispute between the two companies.

In February 2012 Airvana filed a lawsuit against Ericsson in the Supreme Court of New York, alleging the misappropriation of its technology by the Swedish firm to develop a rival product.

Now the two companies say they will “jointly seek dismissal” of the lawsuit.

In an all-stock transaction, 38 Airvana staff, specialising in EVDO, will transfer to Ericsson.

Airvana, a Massachusetts-based company, already supplies EVDO software to Ericsson. (EVDO software enables data transmission in a CDMA wireless network.)

Paul Challoner, head of Ericsson’s CDMA Radio product, maintained the Swedish firm was committed to CDMA and to its CDMA customers.

“We recognise that CDMA will continue to be an important technology in the operators’ networks,” he said. “We continue our vertical integration strategy for key CDMA products and further strengthen our control over product portfolio, ensuring long-term support to our customers with the ability to better respond to their requirements.”
