Based on a mixture of network speeds and size of data allowances, UK operator EE reckons its newly-announced 4G plans offer the best value in Europe.

It is also to offer the UK’s first pay-as-you-go 4G handsets, including the upcoming Alcatel One Touch Idol S (from £129.99).

EE is adopting a two-tier approach to its tariffs, reflecting its two-speed 4G network.

The entry-level 4GEE plans get download speeds of up to 30Mb/s and average speeds of 12-15Mbps.

4GEE Extra customers, on the other hand, can access EE’s “double-speed 4G” network, which is capable of a headline download speed up to 80Mb/s and average speeds in the 24-30Mb/s range.

EE has also introduced 24-month 4G handset plans. Along with the speed and size of the data allowance, the monthly tariff paid is dependent on the handset chosen.

The 4GEE Extra plans range from £26.99 per month (4GB) to £74.99 per month (50GB); 4GEE monthly plans start at £18.99 (500MB) and go up to £54.99 (5GB).

All handsets available on the 4GEE plans will be available for pre-paid 4G. Pay-as-you-go users signing up to a data bundle greater than 2GB get access to the faster speeds.

Moreover, the operator says it will launch 4G and broadband bundles. For £36 per month, broadband customers will get a 20GB mobile data bundle. Pay £50 per month and they’ll get 50GB.

The new tariff and pre-pay offers come into effect on 30 October.
