Deutsche Telekom plans to dispose of its T-Online news and entertainment portal, according to WirtschaftsWoche — a move that would enable it to concentrate more on core business.

Executives from the German operator are thought to have had talks with their counterparts at media group Axel Springer, although the process is reported to be at an early stage.

T-Online is the most popular website in Germany with 374 million visitors in November 2014, ahead of eBay (314 million visitors) and Bild.de (295 million visitors) and Spiegel Online (200 million).

Neither Deutsche Telekom or Axel Springer would comment.

It is unclear if Deutsche Telekom would sell all of T-Online. It’s possible that the operator could keep the part of the business that offers email accounts.

Axel Springer owns Bild.de — the website of the country’s leading tabloid newspaper — so bidding for T-Online could draw the attention of the country’s antitrust authorities.
