BT bundles in 4G “at no extra cost” for SMEs

04 AUG 2014

BT Business unveiled its first 4G mobile plans for UK SMEs, and they don’t carry a premium over 3G data allowances. A 5GB deal on 3G, for example, will cost the same with LTE access added into the mix.

“Every new BT Business Mobile connection now comes with 4G access and unlimited BT WiFi as standard and at no extra cost,” boasted the UK fixed-line operator, which is looking to make inroads into the mobile market.

Making the bundled offer more attractive is the fact that BT has five million WiFi hotspots across the UK.

BT’s new 4G service comes courtesy of its MVNO agreement with EE, the largest mobile operator in the UK.

“Our new plans give customers the connectivity they need to help them stay productive when out and about, along with the flexibility to choose a plan that suits their way of working,” said BT Business CEO Graham Sutherland.

In a series of tweets CCS Insight analyst Paolo Pescatore described the offering as “very competitive”, adding that it “throws down the gauntlet to [BT’s] rivals.”

BT research reveals that 24 per cent of employees now work regularly out of the office.

As part of its push into the mobile SME market BT recently launched One Phone, a fixed-mobile service. Employees insert a BT One Phone SIM in their mobile phone to receive all incoming calls on that device regardless of whether they were made to the landline, extension or mobile number.

BT also has plans to launch 4G services using its own spectrum.
