Bridge Alliance, Ericsson partner on Internet of Things

Bridge Alliance, composed of 36 mobile operators from Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa, is deploying an Ericsson platform that means OEMs, enterprises or service providers can deploy their Internet of Things (IoT) solutions across multiple countries.

The Swedish vendor will supply the alliance with its Device Connectivity Platform (DCP), a  multi-domestic solution for IoT.

With Ericsson DCP deployed on a global scale, operators and their customers will get a unified experience including a single global SIM card, harmonised service levels and business processes, the company said in a statement.

They can also leverage access to DCP-based consumer services to manage new B2B2C business models.

The solution significantly reduces barriers to deployment for these enterprises, keeping total cost of ownership low while maximising quality of service, said Ericsson.

The alliance, whose operator members include India’s Bharti Airtel, Thailand’s AIS, CSL in Hong Kong, Philippines’ Globe Telecom and, most recently, Saudi Telecom Company, widened its span with a move into M2M services last January.

Alessandro Adriani, CEO of Bridge Alliance, believes that the combination of Ericsson’s technology leadership in IoT connectivity and Bridge Alliance’s geographical coverage “is an unmatched vehicle for any device original equipment manufacturer or enterprise looking to propel its business.”

“Offering this unified experience requires more than just harmonising interfaces across mobile operators. We have done more with Ericsson, including standardising our footprint on a common core network. This will truly guarantee harmonised sets of features and service levels within the footprint to our customers,” he added.
