The consortium including Apple and Microsoft which spent $4.5 billion acquiring patents from Nortel is now in talks to sell some of the intellectual property, Bloomberg reports.

The group, Rockstar Consortium, has had little success in landing large deals, the report said, and is now in talks with possible buyers. The original Rockstar deal took place in 2011, at a time when the valuation for patents was at its peak, with the Nortel patents also attracting attention from Google.

According to reports in November, Rockstar has filed suits against Google, Samsung and several other Android handset makers, for alleged infringement of seven patents covering internet search and advertising.

Other parties named were Asustek, HTC, Huawei LG, Pantech and ZTE.

In addition to Apple and Microsoft, participants in the Rockstar group include EMC, Ericsson, BlackBerry and Sony.

Bloomberg said that Rockstar has already begin sales of some patents, with a July 2013 deal seeing some sold to intellectual property specialist Spherix.
