Amdocs is to buy mobile network optimisation software company Actix in a deal worth around $120 million in cash.

In a statement, the acquirer said that the transaction “expands Amdocs’ customer experience portfolio further into the network domain to manage customer experience across both networks and IT”. It said that this will position it as “the first vendor to offer customer experience-driven network optimisation based on a holistic view of the customer experience across all networks, BSS and OSS (business and operational support systems)”.

Network information provided by Actix’s products, combined with customer data and capabilities from Amdocs’ policy management, BSS, and OSS systems, will enable operators to take proactive action based on network performance to “modify and improve” the experience of a specific customer or group of customers.

This means that service providers can differentiate the customer experience and achieve cost efficiencies with improved automation and optimisation of existing networks, as a well as when deploying new technologies such as LTE and small cells.

The boards of both companies have approved the deal which, subject to conditions, is expected to be completed by the end of September.
