Russian device start-up Yota Devices held a “crowdsourcing” event intended to deliver new use cases for the dual-screen YotaPhone.

More than 200 Russian and international device users, developers, creative directors and journalists attended the event in Moscow, with two winning ideas chosen from “more than a dozen” generated.

The two winners were Active Note, which generates notifications based on locations, and Back Scrolling, where sensors on one display can be used to scroll on the other, for example enabling active scrollers of social media or RSS feeds.

Yota Devices said it will “evaluate and pursue” many of the ideas both for its first-generation YotaPhone, which is on sale in Russia, Germany, Austria, France, Spain and the UK, and the next-generation device, which goes to market later this year.

“From the beginning, Yota Devices realised that we had to do things differently, including building a direct dialogue with our fans and active users. In fact, many of the current use cases and applications are due directly to input, suggestions and ideas generated not by Yota Devices, but from our users and our partners,” said Vlad Martynov, CEO of the company.
