Xiaomi unveiled an update to its Mi Band, a device it described as “the world’s third most popular fitness wearable”.

Mi Band now features an optical heart rate sensor on the rear of the device, a feature that has largely been the preserve of premium wearables. Mi Band Pulse is said to offer a similar level of accuracy to Apple Watch.

But the pricing remains low, at CNY99 ($15).

It also features a “better material for its strap” to overcome an easily-broken strap problem on the previous version of the device. Otherwise the design remains essentially unchanged, although it is slightly larger.
