US operator Verizon announced a pair of additions to its Droid-branded device line, both manufactured by long-term partner Motorola, including what is said to be “the world’s first smartphone with a shatterproof display”.

Droid Turbo 2 Front and Back (1)Droid Turbo 2 uses a display construction called ShatterShield, which was described as “an integrated system consisting of five layers designed from materials that absorb shock from impact and are proven not to crack or shatter”. It is guaranteed for four years.

It has a 5.4-inch Quad HD (2K) display, and runs Android 5.1 (upgradable to Android 6.0 Marshmallow) on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. It has 21MP rear and 5MP front cameras, 32GB or 64GB of storage with microSD slot, and 3760mAh battery.

It is also apparently “the world’s fastest charging smartphone”, providing up to 13 hours of power in 15 minutes of charging.

Device customisation is available via Motorola’s Moto Maker tool, and the company is also offering the opportunity to “refresh” the device with a full redesign once within two years of purchase for $96 – which also includes an upgrade to the 64GB version.

Droid Maxx 2 Deep Sea Blue Front and BackAlso added to the Droid line was Droid Maxx 2, which is apparently “designed with the essentials in mind”.

It has a 3630mAh battery designed to offer 48 hours battery life and fast charging technology. It also features 21MP rear and 5MP front cameras.

Droid Maxx 2 has a 5.5-inch HD screen, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor. It has 16GB of onboard storage with microSD slot.
