Toshiba unveiled a fitness tracker for the Japanese market, which it says can run for two weeks without charging – “removing the need for users to carry a charger when traveling”.

Called WERAM1100, it uses an accelerometer to “estimate” physical activities, such as steps taken, distance travelled and calories burned. It can also monitor sleep states and patterns, and hours of sleep per day.

The company said that it “draws on signal processing technology expertise that Toshiba has cultivated in its semiconductor business, and achieves a design that keeps power consumption to a minimum”.

It uses Bluetooth to pair with a smartphone which runs a supporting app.

The wearable can be fitted to four wristbands (black, light grey, pink and blue-green), which are sold separately.

It is available for order online from Amazon and Yahoo Shopping.
