Sony launched a new flagship smartphone and tablet as it looks to keep up its momentum from last year; while it also strengthened its hand in the midrange.

The flagship Xperia Z2 (pictured) has a 5.2 inch screen, aluminium construction and is powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core processor. Its 20.7 megapixel camera is capable of shooting 4K quality video.

This was joined by the Xperia Z2 tablet which features a full 10.1-inch HD screen and 8 megapixel camera. Like its smartphone equivalent, the tablet is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, while accessories include a Bluetooth remote.

The company also announced a new midrange smartphone, the Xperia M2, which supports LTE and NFC and has a 4.8-inch screen and 1.2GHz quad-core processor.

When introducing the device, Kunimasa Suzuki, CEO and president of Sony Mobile Communications, Suzuki said: “We want to take our products to a bigger audience”.

Sony also showed of its SmartBand fitness and tracker device, first announced at CES in January. The SmartBand bolsters the company’s wearables portfolio alongside the SmartWatch 2, launched in June last year.

The new device pairs with Sony smartphones and tablets to provide fitness monitoring and a way to capture the memorable moments of users via the new Lifelog app.

The Xperia Z2, Z2 tablet and SmartBand will be available from March with the M2 arriving a little later in April.
