Samsung announced Galaxy Tab 3, the latest version of its 7-inch screen tablet device.

The company said that the new unit has a thinner bezel than the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), stating it has a “compact, one-hand grip form factor”.

Elsewhere, it has seen a general refresh of its spec list: 1.2GHz dual core processor (compared to 1GHz dual core), Android 4.1 (Android 4.0) and 1.3 megapixel front camera (VGA).

In other regards, the devices are similar: both have WSVGA screens, 3 megapixel main cameras, 1MB of RAM, and are available with 8GB or 16GB of ROM – although the earlier device also had a 32GB version.

It also includes a microSD storage slot.

TechCrunch suggests that with the new name – Galaxy Tab 3 – not featuring any indication of size, a similar refresh may not be on the cards for the larger Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1).

In addition to the standard tablet line, Samsung also offers a range of devices that support pen input using the Note brand, which include 8-inch and 10.1-inch version.

Galaxy Tab 3 will be available in a Wi-Fi only version globally from May 2013, while the 3G version will follow in June.
