Samsung unveiled a special edition of its Galaxy Tab 3 targeting younger users, which it said is “built specifically for kids with the educational tools and safety features parents want”.

In terms of specification, the device is similar to the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3, but the ‘Kids’ version omits the integrated GPS of its sibling, and is also (unsurprisingly) not available in a 3G/LTE version.

It is “pre-loaded with top ranked kid’s apps and brand new Kid’s Store aimed at driving the educational possibilities of technology for kids”. Preloaded content includes education, games, entertainment and e-book apps.

Parents have the ability to manage the apps available to their offspring via an Application Manager. It also has a Time Management feature, which enables parents to set specific time periods for use, after which it locks unless a password is entered.

The Galaxy Tab 3 Kids comes in yellow, and a special case with “child-friendly grip” and multiple stand options will follow.

The case also includes an “easy to grip C Pen, providing fun drawing capabilities without the possibility of leaving marks on other objects”.

The tablet will be available in South Korea early next month, and subsequently across China, Europe,  the US, Africa, South America and Southeast Asia. The availability of apps will vary by market.
