Samsung is to refresh its tablet line at an event scheduled for 12 June, although it has provided little in the way of detail for what to expect.

The event, badged Samsung Galaxy Premiere 2014, comes with the tagline “Tab Into Colour”. It is taking place in New York, which was also its chosen city for the launch of the Galaxy S4 last year.

Among the mooted products is a high-spec 10.5-inch unit, with 2560×1600 resolution screen, 8MP rear and 2MP front cameras, and fingerprint scanner. It would include an octacore processor with 3GB of RAM.

This would be the company’s first to feature an AMOLED display at this size, and the vendor’s first AMOLED tablet for some time.

It has been linked with the name Galaxy Tab S.

An 8.4-inch model was also suggested, again with an AMOLED screen, which may be a sibling for Galaxy Tab S.

Another possible option is a large-screen 13.3-inch device intended to target professional users, again with 2560×1600 resolution, but in this case not AMOLED. Both WiFi and mobile-connected versions would be offered.

In the tablet market, Samsung does have something of a reputation for offering multiple devices with different screen sizes – including its Galaxy consumer line, Note-branded tablets with stylus, and Pro line.

Continuing this ethos, its US arm this week announced a “rugged, student-friendly, 10.1-inch tablet” that integrates with Google Play for Education.

The Galaxy Tab 4 Education (pictured) was apparently “created to address the unique needs of K-12 classrooms, specifically durability, manageability and access to digital learning resources”.
