Samsung is reportedly set to launch a version of its Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone with a larger screen and Qualcomm processor.

According to website SamMobile, the device will feature either a 5.4-inch or 5.7-inch display with curved edges on both sides, similar to the 5.1-inch screen used in Galaxy S6 Edge. The resolution has not been confirmed: the current Galaxy S6 Edge has a quad-HD (2K) display.

And the device will also feature a Qualcomm processor, although it is the Snapdragon 808 (as used in LG’s G4) rather than the much-maligned Snapdragon 810. The South Korean vendor’s original choice of its own silicon over Qualcomm’s highest-tier chips sparked speculation about the performance of the US company’s latest product, which has not died away.

The device will be a closer rival to Samsung’s own Galaxy Note phablet device line, although Note is also differentiated by its support for stylus input.

It is also unclear what the new smartphone will be called: Galaxy S6 Plus and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus have both been mooted.

The launch is expected to be soon – ahead of IFA 2015. Samsung has previously used IFA for its winter device refresh, although this tends to be a Note-branded flagship.
