Samsung debuted its Galaxy A7 smartphone, a larger-screen sibling for the previously announced A3 and A5, which also offers a processing power bump.

The company continues its shift to offer devices with a more premium feel, with the South Korean handset number one stating that it “continues to focus on creating smartphones equipped with the slimmest metal unibody on the market today”.

The newly-announced device has a 5.5-inch full HD screen, and is powered by an octacore chip – either a Qualcomm quad 1.5GHz plus quad 1.0GHz processor for the dual-SIM version, or Samsung quad 1.8GHz plus quad 1.3GHz chip for the single-SIM smartphone.

Other features include category 4 LTE support, 13MP main and 5MP rear cameras, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage (with microSD expansion slot). It is powered by Android 4.4 (KitKat).

Late last year, Samsung unveiled the 4.5-inch screen A3 and 5-inch screen A5, which it said offered “a refined, trendy design and the most advanced functions to support social networking”.

At this point, A7 was rumoured, but not confirmed.

Galaxy A7 will be available in white, black and gold versions.
