Intex Technologies started sales of its Aqua Fish device, described as the “world’s first licensed Sailfish OS product”.

According to Jolla, the company behind the Sailfish platform, Aqua Fish is available for INR5,499 ($82) via Ebay India, with launches through other e-commerce channels planned.

The device has a 5-inch HD display, and runs Sailfish OS 2.0 “with an easy-to-learn gesture-only user interface”.

It is powered by a 1.3GHz quadcore processor, with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of ROM and expandable memory slot. It has a 8MP rear and 2MP front cameras, and 2,500mAh battery.

Aqua Fish comes with an orange finish.

The launch follows shortly after Turing Robotic Industries said it had begun shipments of its Sailfish-powered secure smartphone.

But Intex was the first third-party to commit to using Sailfish, with a deal announced last year.

Other named partners include African device maker MiFone and ethical smartphone startup Fairphone.
