Apple is reportedly set to follow Samsung and LG Electronics down the curved-screen smartphone path, with the iPhone maker also exploring sensors that can detect different levels of pressure on a screen.

According to Bloomberg, two devices planned for release in the second half of 2014 would feature “larger displays with glass that curves downwards at the edges”. Sensors that can detect the level of touch “may be incorporated into subsequent models”, it continued, as this feature is unlikely to be available for the next model.

The report reiterates previous rumours that the Cupertino company will offer larger-screen devices, at 4.7-inches and 5.5-inches, although these have not come to fruition.

Samsung and LG announced their first devices with a curved screen in recent weeks – Galaxy Round and G Flex, respectively – taking advantage of new flexible display technologies developed by their respective screen sister companies.

Both of these vendors are also among those offering large-screen smartphones.
