Qualcomm’s Toq smart watch might not be available to consumers until 2 December, but the US silicon giant says it’s now taking pre-orders for the $349.99 device.

It comes in one colour only – black – but a white version should be available soon.

To try and entice customers to take out their credit cards and make their Toq pre-order, Qualcomm highlights the Mirasol display technology, which is “clearly visible even in direct sunlight” and can go “multiple days between charges”.

The Toq promises to seamlessly delivers alerts, messages and updates from an Android smartphone (Jelly Bean and above preferred) to the wrist.

Qualcomm is one of a number of vendors moving into the smart watch space, including Samsung, although some critics have said that early devices lack the maturity necessary for true consumer products.
