UK-based wearable technology firm Orsto launched its ORSTO Q2 Smartwatch via Kickstarter, with the intention to start production in August 2015.

It said the product is the result of “five years in design, development and testing,” with the company having “more specialised smartwatch R&D experience than almost any other European or US company”.

The Q2 smartwatch works with Android and iOS devices. It has a 1.22-inch colour IPS multitouch screen, voice control, g-sensor, gyroscope and e-compass, and optical heart-rate sensor.

It is round, with “stylishly functional and ergonomically driven aesthetics”.

Orsto is working with Mentor Graphics to use a “bespoke modified version of Nucleus OS”, an embedded operating system that has been used in a wide range of products including mobile phones.

If the company reaches its “stretch” target of £60,000 via Kickstarter, it will also gain a 5MP selfie camera.

“We’ve opted to work with Kickstarter to launch the Q2 as this’ll provide opportunites for backers to get involved globally,” said Paul Gill, chief designer.
