Nokia announced a new high-end Windows Phone-powered smartphone, the Lumia Icon, which will be available exclusively from Verizon Wireless in the US.

The Lumia Icon features a 5-inch 1080p full HD screen, a quad-core 2.2 GHz processor, aluminium construction and the newest version of Windows Phone 8. Its battery is promised to last all day and supports built-in wireless charging.

It has a 20 megapixel camera which makes use of Nokia’s PureView technology, while video mode supports “four lossless microphones that capture omnidirectional audio in full stereo”.

On-board storage of 32GB is complemented with 7GB from Microsoft’s SkyDrive cloud.

Nokia touts the Lumia Icon as a companion device to its Lumia 2520 tablet. The devices can transfer content via NFC and make use of multi-screen features such as Nokia Storyteller and Nokia Video Director.

The device will be available exclusively to the US number-one operator and supports LTE and CDMA technologies.

Verizon Wireless is the leading operator globally in terms of LTE, with 42.7 million device activations, according to the operator’s fourth quarter results for 2013.

The Lumia Icon will be available from 20 February for $199.99 on a two year contract.
