Motorola announced a new version of its entry-level Moto E smartphone, stating that there are “millions of people that haven’t yet joined the smartphone revolution because they haven’t found the right product or they don’t want to spend hundreds of hard-earned dollars to start the journey”.

The company announced the first-generation Moto E in mid-2014, positioning it as a device to attract featurephone upgraders. The second-generation device sees a broad set of feature upgrades over the first.

The new device is available in 3G and LTE versions, with 4.5-inch screen, front-facing (VGA-resolution) camera, Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and “even more customisation options”. Motorola said that for the first time it is “bringing personalised software experiences introduced with its flagship Moto X smartphone to its most affordable device”.

The device is powered by a 1.2GHz quadcore CPU, and has a 2390mAh battery intended to last a full day. It also has 5MP rear facing camera and 8GB of storage with microSD slot.

Black and white versions will be available.

It is available from today in more than 50 countries across North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia. US pricing is $119.99 for the 3G version and $149.99 for its LTE sibling.
