Google said it is “still early days” for the company’s stewardship of Motorola Mobility, as the unit announced another set of poor quarterly figures.

In a conference call, Patrick Pichette, SVP and CFO of Google, said that following the launch of Moto X, which has been “very well received, a great product”, the focus is on “really working on building out marketing and distribution”.

The rollout of Moto X has been very US-focused, which while enabling the company to play on the fact that the device is manufactured in North America, has limited the potential audience.

For the third quarter of 2013, Motorola Mobility saw an operating loss of $248 million, on revenue of $1.18 billion. This compares with a loss of $192 million, on revenue of $1.78 billion, in Q3 2012.
