Microsoft unveiled what it claimed is its “most affordable Lumia to date”, as it continues to push its smartphone line to lower price points.

The device, Lumia 430 Dual SIM, has a price tag of $70, and is intended to deliver “the latest apps and signature Microsoft services to many more people, sometimes for the very first time”.

It runs Windows Phone 8.1 with the Lumia Denim update, and is also “the most affordably-priced Lumia that can upgrade to Windows 10 when it becomes available later this year”.

Earlier this year, Microsoft debuted its Lumia 435, which was the first model to use a 400-series moniker. And the specifications for the new smartphone are essentially the same.

It has a 4-inch WVGA screen, is powered by a 1.2 GHz dualcore processor and has 8GB of storage (with MicroSD expansion slot). It includes 2MP main and VGA front cameras.

Available in orange or black, Lumia 430 Dual SIM will begin rolling out to select markets in MEA and APAC – as well as Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus – from next month. It will also be available in India toward the end of April 2015.

Jo Harlow, corporate VP for phones at Microsoft, said: “People around the world have responded enthusiastically to our affordable Lumia range. We continue to invest in this segment to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy signature Microsoft experiences, regardless of budget.”
