LG Electronics unveiled a new version of its mobile user interface, which it said is “designed for a more playful and innovative mobile experience”.

The company said the Android Marshmallow-based LG UX 5.0 supports “optimal control of LG Friends” – the range of peripherals and accessories the company is looking to offer alongside its smartphones. This includes a Friends Manager, which detects partner products and associated apps.

LG has also followed a trend common among device vendors, by combining the home screen and app drawer “to simplify the user experience”. But in order to appease users who miss the app drawer, an update can be downloaded directly from the settings menu.

An upgraded LG Health app also gains support for “beginner” and “advanced” modes. Security has also been updated, with fingerprint recognition, now built into the UI.

The new interface is being rolled-out alongside the launch of the company’s latest flagship – G5 – and several features specifically target this device.

This includes features related to its camera, such as the ability to switch between normal and wide-area lenses, and multi-view, which captures different angles of the same moment using the front and rear cameras as well as the 360 CAM ad-on.
