LG has refreshed its midrange Optimus L series of smartphones, announcing it will show-off three new models at Mobile World Congress later this month.

The 4.3-inch, dual SIM Optimus L7II will be the first of the new series to launch, making its debut in Russia this week. It will be followed later by the 3.2-inch Optimus L3II and the 4-inch Optimus L5II.

There appears to be little difference in specification between the second-generation L series and its predecessors – apart from the fact that the new models will run the latest Android 4.1 ‘JellyBean’ software.

The original L Series range was launched ten months ago and has clocked up 10 million sales to date, LG says.

“By evolving the sophisticated style and premium features of the original Optimus L Series, its sequel is expected to continue the popularity of the L Series around the world,” said Jong-seok Park, CEO of LG Mobile.

LG appears to be repeating its strategy from a year ago of ‘pre-announcing’ products in the run up to Congress, suggesting further announcements are due in the coming days.
