LG Electronics said it will begin the global rollout of its flagship Optimus G smartphone this month, with the device being targeted at markets where LTE is supported.

The device has already been offered in the US, Canada, Korea and Japan, apparently to “very favourable reviews”. It will be rolled out into more than 50 countries in the next phase, with Singapore the only territory specifically named.

Optimus G is powered by the Jelly Bean variant of Android, and is powered by a quad-core processor.

According to figures from Strategy Analytics late last year, shipments of LTE smartphones will triple in 2013 to reach 275 million units, led by markets such as the US, UK, Japan, China and South Korea.
