Reports suggest that LG Electronics is set to launch its new flagship device at a series of events worldwide on 28 April.

The company did not echo the strategy of rivals Samsung and HTC by unveiling its latest premium device at Mobile World Congress in March, and its new device – expected to be called G4 – will also reach the market after its main rivals.

Huawei has also not yet shown its hand with its new flagship device.

It is widely expected that the new LG range-topper will have a curved display and maintain the rear-mounted control key.

Other mooted features include 15MP main and 7MP front-facing cameras, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

And unlike some of its rivals, it will also go with a hectacore rather than octacore processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 rather than Snapdragon 810).

LG was the first vendor to announce a device powered by Snapdragon 810 – its G Flex 2 – but reports from South Korea suggest that overheating issues have led LG to opt for the slightly lower-tier processor in its new flagship.

Samsung has also opted not to use the Qualcomm chips in its latest Galaxy S6 devices, leading the chipmaker to issue a statement iterating vendor support for the processor.

It has also been suggested that the company will launch a stylus-driven rival called G4 Note, aiming squarely at Samsung’s Note-branded product line.
