LG Electronics announced the global launch of its G Pad 10.1 tablet, which it said has a “host of new features adopted from LG G3”.

G Pad 10.1 is the largest in the South Korean device maker’s portfolio, and features a 10.1-inch 1280×800 display and 8000mAh battery that “gives users an immersive multimedia experience and endless hours of entertainment”.

Interestingly, the company is also positioning it in the mid-tier – a part of the tablet market that has proved tough for vendors other than Samsung, with users generally opting either for Apple’s premium iPad or lower-cost Android devices.

LG said that G Pad offers “just the right balance of performance, personality and price to fill the gap between entry level and premium tablets”.

Features carried over from G3, LG’s latest flagship smartphone, include ‘Touch & Shoot’, where tapping anywhere on the display will focus and activate the shutter in a single step; Gesture Shot for Selfies, where clenching the free hand into a fist within the shot frame will begin a three second countdown; Smart Keyboard; and Dual Window.

LG G Pad 10.1 is powered by a 1.2GHz quadcore Qualcomm processor, has 16GB of on-board storage and a microSD expansion slot, and includes 5MP main camera.

It will be available initially in the US, followed by other markets in Europe, Asia and Latin America. Pricing and retail availability will be announced locally in each territory.
