Speculation grew about the next version of Google’s flagship Nexus smartphone, which picked up pace after manufacturer LG Electronics began contacting websites asking for the removal of leaked documentation.

According to Android Police, Nexus 5 will have an impressive, if not outstanding, high-end spec list. It will have a 4.95-inch full HD display and will be the first Nexus smartphone to feature 4G (LTE) connectivity.

It would be powered by a 2.3GHz quadcore Qualcomm processor, and include 2GB of RAM. The version listed included 32GB of storage, although usually several different capacities are offered, and other features include an 8MP main camera with image stabilisation, NFC and wireless charging.

New Nexus devices accompany the introduction of a new version of the Android platform, in this case Android 4.4 (KitKat).  So far, few details of the enhancements to be added with this version of the platform have been revealed, meaning it is not clear what new software features Nexus 5 will support.

This also indicates that Google is sticking with LG as the manufacturer of its Nexus smartphones. The South Korean company was the maker of the Nexus 4, but Google has also worked with Samsung and HTC in this market.

Earlier this year, LG sent out some mixed messages with regard to its involvement in the Nexus 5 project, with an executive arguing that while the device was a success with consumers, it did not need “such a marketing success” again.
