LG announced the global launch of its F70 smartphone, which it said “will be introduced to millions of LTE customers from early May starting in Europe, followed by Asia, Central and South America and North America”.

This is a mass-market LTE smartphone, powered by a 1.2GHz quadcore processor and running Android 4.4. It has a 4.5-inch display and features LG’s proprietary user interface features including Knock Code, which enables users to unlock a smartphone with taps of the finger.

The device also has a 5 megapixel rear camera.

Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG’s mobile unit, said: “The F70 possesses all the best of LG’s LTE technologies in a slim, handsome design that will appeal to millions of customers worldwide who are thinking of upgrading to 4G.”

LG said that it shipped 5 million LTE-enabled devices during the first quarter of 2014, making it its biggest ever quarter for the technology.
