LG Electronics said its G4 smartphone will be “the first in the world to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS”.

From this week, the upgrade is being made available – initially in Poland, and followed by other markets in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

LG’s early adoption of the new platform is perhaps not a surprise, with the company being one of the two suppliers of Google’s latest generation of Nexus devices.

“While speed alone isn’t an indicator of great service, it does go a long way toward giving consumers the confidence that LG is committed to its existing customers first,” Chris Yie, VP and head of marketing communications for LG Mobile Communications said.

Among the features supported by the new version of Android are simplified permissions and a “doze mode” which shuts down the background processing of certain apps when the phone is not in use.
