UK-based smartphone start-up Kazam unveiled a bevy of new products ahead of Mobile World Congress, including Windows smartphones and tablets as well as updating its Android portfolio.

For the company’s “super affordable” Android-powered Trooper line, three – 450, 451 and 455 – are described as “entry-level”, with three more – 440L, 445L and 450L – including LTE support.

A number of colour options will also be available – “from champagne to blue, black, white, red, grey and silver”. Screen sizes range from 4-inches to 5.5-inches, although HD is notable by its absence, even for the biggest devices.

Cameras are 2MP (440L) or 5MP (all others) at the rear and 0.3MP (VGA) for the front.

In terms of Windows Phone, the company has unveiled two devices – Thunder 450W and Thunder 450WL. Both feature 5-inch HD screens (1280×720) and 1.2GHz quadcore processors, with the latter also picking-up LTE support.

And in terms of tablets, the company unveiled a trio of Windows 8.1 devices – L7, L8 and L10. They are powered by quadcore Intel chips, and include 2MP front and rear cameras.

The “reliable, user-friendly and ultra-affordable” L8 was particularly identified as a “big hit with customers, who have been vocal about their willingness to replace their old devices with this new, fast, easy-to-navigate Windows 8.1 operating system”.

“We are delighted to expand our relationship with Kazam. These new Windows tablets and phones will diversify Kazam’s Windows offerings across Europe and provide customers with a consistent yet personalised experience across devices,” said Peter Han, VP of worldwide marketing in the OEM division at Microsoft.

“As a dedicated European mobile brand, Kazam has responded to the demand for a choice of affordable phones and tablets. Today’s announcement further demonstrates our commitment to the market, innovating in areas often overlooked by the competition,” Michael Coombes, CEO, said.

Full pricing and availability details will follow later.

Kazam was established in 2013 in the UK by several former HTC employees.
