VIDEO INTERVIEW: The mobile devices and content business is “at a crossroads”, with the option of preserving the status quo or to “actually start to provide choice”, according to Marc Dillon, CEO of start-up Jolla.

Speaking to Mobile World Live at Mobile World Congress last month, the executive said: “I think that a bit of choice to the consumer is going to be good, but they’re also going to ask for more, to start to look at all of the choices available”.

Dillon said that with the industry as it is at the moment, the full range of stakeholders are being “squeezed”. App developers are suffering due to intense competition in existing app stores, with operators also seeing their positions in the value chain challenged.

“And OEMs are getting squeezed, because there are very little margins that are available now and very little differentiation,” he continued.
