Wearable device maker Jawbone announced new features for its Up2 and Up3 devices, as well as expanding the design options for its “fashion-focused activity trackers”.

A firmware update will add features including automatic sleep detection, meaning users no longer need to tap the band to enter and exit sleep mode, and (for Up3 owners) passive heart rate tracking throughout the day, to give “a more complete picture of their heart health”.

The company said the features have been “extensively tested in an open beta trial of the past month, and have been widely welcomed by the Up community”.

Jawbone also unveiled a new design for Up2 and ten new colour options for Up2 and Up3.

Up2, previously available in “black diamond” and “light grey hex” with flat straps, is now available in six new colours, five of which feature an “all-new design with two lightweight thin straps”.

Up3 is available in 4 additional colours alongside the original black and silver.
