HTC announced the latest in its Butterfly-branded smartphone line for Asian markets, which bears more than a passing resemblance to the previously-announced One (E8).

Called Butterfly 2 (or J butterfly HTL23 in Japan), the device will be offered by Chunghwa Telecom in Taiwan, CSL in Hong Kong, KDDI, and “significant carriers in South Asia”.

HTC also mentioned markets including India, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

As with One (E8), it has a polycarbonate (plastic) body rather than the metal used in One (M8), although in this instance it is also water and dust resistant.

It features the ‘duo camera’ feature introduced with the One (M8), which adds a depth sensor alongside the 13MP camera. It also supports the vendor’s ‘boom sound’ audio.

Butterfly 2 is powered by a 2.5GHz quadcore Qualcomm processor, and will be available with 16GB or 32GB of storage (32GB only in Japan).

It has a 5-inch full HD screen and LTE support.

The Japanese version also gains support for KDDI’s legacy CDMA network, as well as several broadcast services offered in the market.
