Huawei is set to take its Honor brand to the US market, with reports that the company could make an announcement as soon as next month’s CES 2016.

While Huawei has offered smartphones in the US market, its highest-profile product there to date has been the Nexus 6P offered in partnership with Google. With Honor, it has a suitably western-sounding brand to crack a market where the company’s networks division has suffered due to its Chinese origin.

Indeed, ZTE, which has also struggled to grow its networks business in the US, has been able to grow a strong presence in the unlocked smartphone market. The company claims to be the fourth biggest smartphone player in the country, and second biggest in the no-contract segment, citing figures from Strategy Analytics.

As yet, it is not clear which Honor products will make it to the US, although Android Authority said that while the company had mooted “region specific” products, its initial efforts are likely to be with international devices.
