Garmin aims young with latest tracker

29 SEP 2016

Garmin unveiled its “first wearable just for kids”, Vivofit Jr, which it describes as a “motivator and activity tracker to encourage kids to stay on the move”.

The device has a one-piece band which stretches over a child’s hand, with one-year battery life and water resistance meaning it rarely needs to be removed. In addition to tracking steps, sleep and activity, it comes with a “parent controlled mobile app”, which can be used to assign responsibilities and agreed-upon rewards for completed tasks.

Vivofit Jr targets the 4-9 age group, and is available in a number of colours (black, broken lava, digi camo, purple strike and real flower band patterns) for $79.99.

Garmin has secured a top-5 position in the wearables market with devices which have largely focused on fitness and sport fans.
