AT&T announced a US exclusive on Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Active, a new edition to the vendor’s S6-branded portfolio.

The differentiating feature of the device is its IP68 certified casing, which is water-resistant up to 1.5 metres and for up to 30 minutes, shock resistant and dust-proof. It is, unsurprisingly, less svelte than its flagship siblings.

One benefit of the more robust design is the ability to support a beefy 3500mAh battery with embedded wireless charging which “works with most wireless charging pads on the market”.

The device has a 5.1-inch 2K (QuadHD) screen, and is powered by a 64-bit octacore Samsung processor. It has 16MP rear and 5MP front cameras and 32GB of onboard storage.

Also highlighted were features to support “outdoor adventures”, such as a quick launching compass, flashlight and stopwatch.

Jeff Bradley, SVP of device marketing and developer services for AT&T Mobility, said: “As we’ve shown over the past three years as the exclusive provider of Samsung’s Galaxy S active family, we felt that our customers shouldn’t have to trade durability for best-in-class specs”.

It is available in grey, “camo white” and “camo blue”.
