Apple released an update for its iOS platform, intended to resolve issues which led to some operators advising iPhone owners not to install the previous version on their devices.

The smartphone player recently released iOS 6.1 to an unusual degree of fanfare for an interim release – highlighting the addition of LTE support for more operators as well as a number of other updates.

However, according to The Register, operators including Vodafone UK and 3 Austria had advised customers not to install the software, with Vodafone stating that it is “aware of an issue caused by Apple iPhone 4S handsets that have been upgraded to iOS 6.1 which impacts performance on 3G”.

Interestingly, the glitch does not appear to have affected all iPhone 4S devices on all operators, and the reasons for the differences are not clear.

The BBC said that users had complained of heat and battery draining due to issues related to network connectivity, with some corporate users also stating that devices were continuously polling email systems, slowing down services and again impacting battery life.
