Google detailed an update to its Android platform, which it said introduces several new features as well as providing stability and performance improvements.

Android 5.1 adds native support for multiple SIM cards, and adds a new device protection feature – lost or stolen smartphones and tablets will remain locked until the relevant Google account sign-in is used, even if reset to factory settings.

Also added is support for HD voice, although the company said that this is currently available between compatible devices “on T-Mobile or Verizon”.

Android 5.1 Lollipop also provides the ability to join Wi-Fi networks and control paired Bluetooth devices directly from the Quick Settings menu.
