Struggling Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC unveiled two new smartphones in the mid-tier, the Desire 10 Pro and Desire 10 Lifestyle.

Desire 10 Pro
The Desire 10 Pro, as expected, is the high spec device of the two, and comes with a 5.5 inch screen and 1080P display.

It runs on a MediaTek Helio P10 octa core chip, supported by 3GB or 4GB of RAM depending on the 32GB or 64GB model, but both models are unlikely to be available in the same markets.

The phone’s rear camera is 20MP, while the front facing one is 13MP, and also features a new selfie panorama mode to capture up to 150 degrees in one image.

The phone will also run with Google’s new Android Marshmallow software.

The company has talked up the audio capabilities on both devices, and applied “BoomSound” enhancement technology to the headphone jack (which has been removed in Apple’s latest flagship), giving users an enhanced experience when listening through headphones. It also has a fingerprint scanner technology included.

As with the Lifestyle device, the Pro comes in four colours; Stone Black, Royal Blue, Valentine Lux and Polar White, and will reportedly arrive in the European market in November.

Desire 10 Lifestyle
The lower spec Lifestyle device comes with BoomSound capabilities on the phone’s internal speakers, and is described as providing “studio quality sound”. It also comes with a 5.5 inch screen, a 720 display, a 13MP rear camera, and a 5MP front facing camera.

It includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, while RAM and storage is slightly lower than the Pro, at 2GB and 3GB on a 16GB and 32GB device respectively. It also includes SD card support to provide up to 2TB of expandable memory.

Unlike the Pro, it does not have fingerprint scanner capabilities, but will run on Android Marshmallow software.

According to reports, the Desire 10 Lifestyle will be available at the end of September for £249, also in Europe, including the UK.

The company, which has struggled to compete with Apple and Samsung in the high end smartphone market, will hope the updated Desire range will build on momentum generated by its HTC 10 flagship.

In its last conference call, the company was particularly bullish about its sales performance in the second half of the year.
