Cohere secures $35M in funding led by Telstra

26 MAR 2015

Santa Clara-based Cohere Technologies has lined up $35 million in Series C funding from a group of investors led by Australia’s leading operator Telstra.

Cohere, which was set up in 2011, has developed a modulation technology — Orthogonal Time Frequency and Space (OTFS) – that claims to sharply increase the capacity of wireless networks and has applications for wireless backhaul, fixed wireless access and future 5G networks.

Macquarie Capital and AME Cloud Ventures also join existing investors New Enterprise Associates and Lightspeed Ventures in investing in Cohere to enable it to scale up its offering and bring it to market as demand expands for higher capacity indoor and outdoor wireless coverage.

Mike Wright, Telstra’s group managing director of networks, said in the next few months it will start a number of trials to test the capabilities of OTFS and how it can be integrated into the Telstra network.

“We already have strong backhaul and access networks and anticipate that by working with Cohere we can improve this further as we move into a highly connected future and a 5G world,” Wright said.
