PRESS RELEASE: China Telecom has partnered with ZTE to launch an innovative emergency networking solution that integrates 5G, satellite, and WiFi technologies. This cutting-edge solution aims to deliver seamless communication coverage worldwide, ensuring reliable connectivity in remote and critical environments.

This technology combines 5G, satellite, and WiFi to address weak coverage areas on land via 5G VoWiFi technology, while also enabling connectivity in disaster zones, at sea, or in the air through 5G VoSat technology. The solution supports voice and messaging services in even the most remote or challenging environments, ensuring people remain connected during emergencies and in daily communication scenarios.

China Telecom and ZTE have achieved several technological breakthroughs in this project. These include developing an authentication and traceability scheme based on a three-fusion network of fixed, mobile, and satellite connections. The industry’s first integrated traceability gateway for terrestrial and space, fixed and mobile networks has also been independently developed. Moreover, they realized the first VoWiFi instance based on a 5G SA network and proposed a lightweight i5GC and miniaturized iIMS technical reconstruction plan. This innovation integrates various voice call functions, such as VoLTE, VoNR, and VoWiFi, providing users with a seamless communication experience.

To date, the solution has been piloted in mobile networks across multiple provinces and deployed on domestic cruise ships like the Adora Magic City and the East China Sea Patrol Vessel, serving over 100,000 users. It enables economical or even free calls and messaging services for users in remote areas, at sea, or in the air through their mobile native applications. Additionally, the solution has played a vital role in delivering timely public welfare communication during disaster scenarios.

The innovation has garnered widespread attention, with extensive media coverage and showcases at major events such as the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona and Shanghai. It has also received prestigious accolades, including the World Internet Conference Award for Pioneering Science and Technology and the GTI Innovative Mobile Service and Application Award.

The integrated emergency networking solution of 5G + satellite + WiFi not only represents a technological milestone but also underscores a commitment to social responsibility. Looking ahead, China Telecom and ZTE will continue to deepen their collaboration, expanding the application of this innovation to broader marine, aerial, and disaster-affected areas globally. Through ongoing advancements and practical applications, this partnership aims to enhance the resilience and reliability of global communication networks, contributing to a more connected and harmonious digital world.
