Unstrung has revealed details of network equipment suppliers being used by Vodafone and Verizon Wireless in their LTE trials. According to the publication, Vodafone is testing equipment from Huawei, Motorola and Nokia Siemens Networks, whilst US operator Verizon is testing equipment from Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson and Nortel.

At last year’s Mobile World Congress both operators, as well as China Mobile, announced joint plans to trial LTE. Further details on these trials are expected to be announced at this year’s event later this month. Vodafone in particular is keen for the three companies to work more closely together. Last week, the operator’s chief executive Vittorio Colao hinted at closer future ties between all three, stating that their individual regional domination at present could be combined to create an “unbeatable” alliance that would allow them to drive adoption of the LTE standard on a global basis, focus on Internet services and give them added bargaining power in the procurement of handsets and other mobile equipment.
