LIVE FROM CES 2016: China’s Letv launched the Le Max Pro smartphone, the first device to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor, as it looks to “break the boundaries of innovation” and expand globally, starting with the US.

It is also the first device to adopt Qualcomm’s quick charge technology for up to 75 per cent faster charging than conventional methods, as well as the chipmaker’s ultrasonic 3D fingerprint technology.

This was described as more reliable and secure by Brian Modoff, executive vice president of strategy at Qualcomm, because it can ensure that an actual finger is being used for biometric authentication.

The phone has an all aluminium body and a 6.33” high colour gamut Sharp 2k display which will provide “extreme realistic video and gaming experiences”.

Pricing and availability details have yet to be disclosed.

“Letv has already established itself as one of the world’s top innovators and our decision to include the Snapdragon 820 processor in these new devices demonstrates our commitment to creating and delivering the best technology available to our customers,” said Liang Jun, COO at Letv.

“Once the marketplace sees the dramatic performance enhancements in our smartphones, we are confident they will not accept anything less,” he added.

Letv claims it will be the first to roll out commercial devices integrating 802.11ad multi-band wireless connectivity for multi-gigabit speeds and nearly uncompressed content transfer. 11ad use cases include lag-free docking and screen mirroring as well as 4k streaming to multiple devices.

The Le Max Pro is the latest addition to Letv’s Le Superphone family, of which the company said it sold more than one million units last November.

The company also announced Le Ecosystem, a user centric ecosystem made up of seven sub-ecosystems and three smart device interfaces for TV, mobile and electric vehicles.

The company was keen to point out that it is working with partners in LA and Silicon Valley as part of its strategy for “full scale global cooperation”.
